Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez's fight against Gabe Rosado was canceled after failing the weigh-in

They canceled the fight scheduled for this Saturday, March 18 between the Mexican Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez and Gabe Rosado of 175 pounds after the Mexican boxer failed the weigh-in.

The former champion weighed in at 182.6 pounds on Friday, so the fight was cancelled. Former champion Joseph Diaz Jr. will fight Mercito Gesta in the new Golden Boy in the main event of DAZN.

Díaz Jr. could not meet the weigh-in for the lightweight fight either, but the fight will continue. For his part, Mercito Gesta weighed in at 137.2 pounds.

The southpaw Ramírez apologized with a statement on his Instagram after failing the weigh-in before the fight against Gabe Rosado.

“I have never lost weight in my 45 pro fights,” he wrote. “This is the first and last time. I have always prided myself on being a professional, but today was not my best moment. In that regard, I would like to apologize to all my fans, followers, Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN. for this unfortunate fact,” said the Mexican.

Ramirez has a record of 44 wins and one loss (30 KO). His only loss was to Russian Dimitry Bivol at 175 pounds in November 2022.. Mexican Ramírez, 31, vacated his super middleweight title in 2019 after five successful defenses at 168 pounds.

“I never stopped trying to gain weight, cutting until the very last moment, but I just couldn’t lose enough to make the contract weight. I am ashamed and upset by my actions and I promise this will never happen again. I will make the right adjustments and we will be back soon,” she commented.

Gabe Rosado had just lost three straight fights since he won by knockout against Bektemir Melikuziev in 2021. Rosado had prepared for his first fight at 168 pounds against Gilberto Ramírez.
