After, due to the slowdown in its sales, in January Google announced that it would lay off 12,000 employees covering their respective compensation, a group of former workers assures that the company intends to breach the allegedly established agreements.

More than 100 former employees organized among themselves and formed a group called “Laid off on furloughs” and are asking you respectfully the executives of the technology firm to pay them the weeks and months of free time that they previously approved to resign prior to the announcement of the personnel cuts.

Even contacted the television channel CNBC to report that Google has let former employees who were laid off during medical and maternity leave know that they will not be paid for all the time remaining on their leaves and will only respect the standard compensation established until the last day they worked for the company.

The former employees say they have sent a letter exposing their situation to executives and even to Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, but have received no response.

It is known that some of the people who were laid off were on maternity leave, baby bonding leave, caregiver leave, medical leave, and personal leave and even said period is still valid. However, Google intends to ignore that so as not to pay them more money as compensation.

Almost 1,400 employees at Google parent Alphabet have signed a petition calling for better treatment of staff during the layoff process. https://t.co/QsxLydn0NT

This situation is contradictory to the commitment indicated by Sundar Pichai when mentioning that all employees who worked for the company in the United States would receive 16 weeks of severance pay plus another two for each year of seniority and also the time that some type of previously granted license would imply.

For this reason, those who were fired while on medical or maternity leave ask the company’s administrative staff to respect the promise.

In response, via email, a Google spokesperson reiterated to CNBC that the laid-off employees will get their 16 weeks of pay and an additional two weeks for each year of service, but never raised the issue of compensation for the days marked by their medical licenses or for having been parents.
