California is the luckiest state for the lottery, with 27 jackpot prizes in a decade

To win the lottery, many receive their special or lucky numbers; however, a new Study Reveals Your Chances of Hitting the Jackpot May Depend on Where You Live and California is considered the luckiest state.

A new study reveals Which are the states with the highest number of jackpots? in the last ten years.

According to the study conducted by Bonus.com, California is where most of the country’s good fortune resides.. The Golden State takes the cake with 16 Mega Millions and 11 Powerball prizes between 2012 and 2022. That gives California a total of 27 jackpot wins in the past ten years, according to the study, conducted by Bonus.com.

Other states with great fortune are New York, with 22 awards, New Jersey, with 19, and Florida, with 14. Illinois and Michigan tie for fifth with nine awards in the past decade.

On the other side of the scale, the inhabitants of Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma they have had little success with the jackpot. It’s the same story for states like Idaho, North Dakota, Montana, South Dakota, and Wyoming. In these 10 states there have not been any jackpots in the last ten years.

Some states were jinxed from the start. The lottery is not played in Hawaii, Nevada, Utah and Alabama.

The biggest jackpots by state

A Lucky Californian Won World Record $2.04 Billion Jackpot in November 2022. The The highest Mega Millions jackpot came with a $1.5 billion prize awarded to someone in South Carolina in 2018. California also boasts the largest total jackpot winnings at $7.7 billion since 2012.

Although Florida ranked fifth for the highest number of lotteries won, is second for total jackpot winnings at $5.5 billions, followed by New York ($4 billion) and New Jersey ($3.8 billion).
