Liverpool gets into European positions with a historic 7-0 win over Manchester United

Liverpool had their best game of the season and thrashed Manchester United 6-0, who came with hopes of reaching the first two places in the Premier League.

The match began with the promise of being a great even match. United had some chances in front of Allison’s goal and they even disallowed a goal from an advanced position by Casemiro, but after that the rain of goals began.

Late in the first half, Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 43rd minute for a score that was everything for Liverpool In the second half. The Dutchman took advantage of a filtered pass from Robertson, outlined himself and with a right hand scored the first.

Beginning the second half, the Uruguayan Darwin Nuñez made it 2-0 and Manchester United under their arms against the Reds’ attack that grew at Anfield. Gakpo made it 3-0 in the 50th minute and in 7 minutes they had scored the first three goals.

In minute 66, Mohamed Salah joined the scorers and in minute 75 Nuñez increased the score to 5-0 against Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United who took out Casemiro and Lisandro Martínez after the fifth goal.

Manchester United had not conceded 5 goals at Anfield in a league match for 98 years. In the 83rd minute, Salah scored his brace to make it 6-0 and Liverpool scored more than six goals against United for the first time in over 100 years.

The seventh and last goal of the day was scored by Roberto Firmino in his farewell season with the Reds after confirming that he will not renew his contract with Liverpool after the end of the season. Salah became Liverpool’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 129 goals.

The Reds reached fifth position in the table with 42 points that qualifies for the Europa League and they are 3 points behind Tottenham for fourth place for the UEFA Champions League qualifying positions.
