HOUSTON – A man who was apparently trying to protect his pet, which was being attacked by two of a neighbor’s dogs, was mauled to death, Houston police said.

The dogs that were attacking the victim’s pet jumped on him when he tried to separate the animals, but unfortunately the attack ended up being deadly.

Officers responded to the incident that occurred in the 5550 block of Sheraton Oaks on Wednesday afternoon, shooting one of two dogs that attacked the victim, Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson said.

The fatal mutilation occurred at about 4 pm in the Greater Inwood neighborhood, located northwest of downtown Houston.

It was reported that the victim heard noise outside her residence and when she left she saw her dog being attacked by her neighbor’s dogs.

When trying to rescue his pet, the dogs attacked him and mutilated him. Upon arriving at the scene officers found the man injured and shortly thereafter he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the victim’s neighbor owns three dogs, but only two were involved in the deadly attack.

It has not been released if charges will be filed against the owner of the dogs.
