Martín Riascos, who was representing the American John Poulos, allegedly responsible for the murder of Valentina Trespalacios, resigned to his role as a lawyer after receiving death threats.

On January 22, the Bogotá authorities responded to the call of a homeless person, who discovered a suitcase in a garbage container, inside which lay the lifeless body of the 23-year-old girl, who apparently died of strangulation.

Strangely, That same day, John Poulos fled to Panama, where he ended up being arrested when he tried to board a flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The subject originally from Texas and father of three children in the United States He faces charges of aggravated femicide and concealment of evidence. However, he declined to plead guilty.

In this sense, Martín Riascos acted as his lawyer for a few days until the defender himself felt that his integrity was at risk.

“Since last Wednesday, January 25, 2023, I have received threats on my social networks, personally, by phone calls and by all means. So much so that I have decided not to answer my phone or open messages from unknown people,” the lawyer told the judge in charge of the case.

Likewise, Riascos announced that John Poulos also asked him to abandon his defense.

“Ironically, I asked for security only for who up to that moment was my client, but neither the judiciary nor anyone thought of all the problems that all this was causing me and my personal life,” he stressed.

The resignation of the lawyer for the alleged murderer of Valentina Trespalacios was also joined by that of Martha Morales, who served as interpreter for John Poulos.

In this regard, it is mentioned that the woman’s translations were so deficient that now they put progress in the trial at risk and there are those who demand to start it again.

So far, John Poulos maintains that the murder of the girl with whom he had a love affair is the work of the extinct Medellín Cartel, but what is controversial about the version is that he has no evidence on how to prove it and those that do exist incriminate him.
