The end of the COVID-19 emergency would also be the end of Title 42

On March 20, 2020, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, issued a public health order which officials said was aimed at stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

The order, created under the mandate of donald trumpwhich is called Title 42 and allows the Customs and Border Protection Office, CBP, to prohibit the entry of certain people who present “potentially a health risk”it may be due to previously announced travel restrictions or for having entered the country irregularly.

CBP reported that people were not being held in congregate areas for processing, but rather were immediately deported to the country of last transit; unaccompanied minors were exempt from that measure.

CDC states that the title 42 rule will remain in effect until the country no longer considers COVID-19 a public health emergency or until the danger of contagion has decreased and the same center determines that it is no longer necessary; Biden announced a couple of days ago to Congress that he will end national health emergencies due to the coronavirus on May 11 because most of the world has moved closer to normal almost three years later.

Biden’s statement would cause Title 42 to be voidedHowever, the Republicans will not sit idly by and will try by all means to face the culmination of the health norm.

It should be remembered that It is not the first time that the president of the United States tries to put an end to the controversial health norm which has allowed the expulsion of millions of immigrants, was expected to be completed in December last year, which caused hundreds of immigrants to arrive at the border waiting to request asylum, something that did not happen because the petition was stopped by the Supreme Court .
