Mexico registered a new act of violence against police officers, this time it was in the state of Sonora -one of the states that has suffered the most from the ravages of organized crime for years- and the balance of the aggression was a dead state element, who fell in line of duty, and three injured, for which reason an operation was deployed to locate those responsible for the crime.

The state police officers were carrying out their routine patrols in the El Coyote ejido, in the municipality of Caborca, when they saw a suspicious car and stopped it. When getting out of the patrol car to approach the vehicle, its occupants fired at the agents.

The Secretary of Public Security of the state of Sonora (SSP) released the facts through its social networks. Likewise, it regretted the death of officer Rosario Guadalupe Cota, who according to the agency, “performed in an exemplary manner during 10 years of service”.

According to the SSP, the operation lasted a considerable time to try to locate those responsible for the attack, but only the vehicle was located, which was abandoned.

Regarding the injured police officers, it was announced that they were transferred to hospitals, where they were reported to be stable, since their injuries did not put their lives at risk.

The organization Causa en Común pointed out that, During 2022, 11 police officers were killed in Sonoraaccording to the records obtained by journalistic notes.

Regarding intentional homicide, Sonora has a rate of 45.22 murder victims per 100,000 inhabitants, almost double the national average of 20.07.

Data from the federal Security Secretariat reveal that Nogales, Guaymas, Hermosillo and Cajeme are among the most violent municipalities in the country, all of which belong to Sonora.
