The Miami Heat jersey with which LeBron James won his second NBA title in 2013 is sold this Friday for 3.68 million dollars at an auction held in New York by Sotheby’s house.
James wore the jersey in the seventh and final game of the 2013 Finals, against the San Antonio Spursone of the most iconic moments of his career: that day he won his second consecutive championship and his second MVP of the finals.
With 37 points and 12 rebounds, LeBron capped what was perhaps his best season with a 95-88 victory. against some Spurs led by the historic Tim Duncan. That year, LeBron James also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award after finishing with 26.8 points per game, 8 rebounds and 7.3 assists.
That final was decided in seven games and was one of the closest finals that has been played in the last 10 years in the NBA.
The white jersey has the number 6 that James wore in Miamia team that he would leave at the end of the following season after losing in the finals against the Spurs.
The garment was sold this Friday for a hammer price of $3 million, which with fees and taxes raised the final amount to $3.68 million.
That $3 million is in the lower range that Sotheby’s expected to raise.which had estimated the price at up to 5 million dollars.
Even so, that price makes it one of the most expensive sports jerseys ever auctioned, although far from more than $9 million dollars. that raised the one that Maradona wore during the famous episode of the “Hand of God” or the more than 10 million that were paid for the one that Michael Jordan wore in a game of the 1998 finals.
