The Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced Friday that it will develop a “next generation” of the program E-Verifywhich allows employers to verify the immigration eligibility of their workers in the United States, as part of a three-year strategic plan released this Friday.
The USCIS federal agency announced its plan until 2026, which includes strengthening and training its staff and expanding the procedures that can be carried out online.
Among the objectives of USCIS is to “improve the experience and process” of employment verification of migrant workers, which companies carry out on a voluntary basis.
With the new generation of E-Verify, it is also expected to reduce data duplication and give employees greater control over their verification process through a secure and private method, according to the plan.
Nearly one million employers currently use E-Verify and more than 2.4 million hiring sites use this system, according to US government data.
The USCIS strategic plan also proposes to reduce the number of pending cases and processing times and improve the efficiency of immigration processes, with special emphasis on citizenship procedures.
It will also seek to expand its workforce, ensure fiscal solvency and continue “modernization efforts with the introduction of additional options for online transactions.”
Ur M. Jaddou, USCIS Director, said in a statement that the agency “has much more to do to achieve an immigration system built on trust, inclusion, integrity and affordability.”
