The first Native American astronaut has successfully completed her first spacewalk. In October 2022, Nicole Aunapu Mann she became the first Native American woman to travel to space and conduct a mission on the International Space Station.
As reported by NASA, Mann ventured on a spacewalk to prepare the International Space Station for more solar panels. Astronaut came out together with the Japanese Koichi Wakataloaded with a bag of equipment.
Their mission was to install brackets for the new solar panels which will launch this summer, as part of an ongoing effort by NASA to extend the space station’s power grid.
According to NASA data and numbers, this was the 258th spacewalk in support of space station assembly, upgrades, and maintenance, the first spacewalk of 2023 and the first spacewalk for both astronauts.
