The vigil is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at City Hall in Monterey Park, at 320 W. Newmark Ave. People can attend with flowers or candles.

Investigators are continuing their investigation to try to discover the motive that led Huu Can Tran, a 72-year-old man from Hemet, to enter a dance hall to shoot the attendees of a Lunar New Year celebration.

At noon this Sunday, Tran was located aboard a white cargo van in the parking lot of a Torrance shopping center. As law enforcement surrounded the vehicle, officers heard a gunshot report and found the suspect’s body lying on the steering wheel with a self-inflicted gunshot..

More details about Tran were released Monday in a description of what his movements might have been between the Monterey Park shooting and the dance studio in Alhambra, two miles away, where he also attempted to enter with a firearm. but was disarmed by a couple of passersby.

During the celebration in the second room, the Lai Lai Ballroom & Studio, in Alhambra, sponsor Brandon Tsay told ABC he heard the front door close behind him. Apparently, Tran went to this place after the shooting in Monterey Park.

“That’s when I turned around and saw that there was an Asian man with a gun. My first thought was that he was going to die here, this is it,” Tsay recounted.

The sponsor lunged at Tran and took the gun during the confrontation as the assailant tried to take the gun from him with blows to the face and back of the head.

Finally, Tsay took the gun from him and threw Tran out of the place..

When Tran’s body was found in the white van, a different handgun was recovered, along with other evidence linking him to the Monterey Park shooting, authorities said.

However, until now it is still unknown what was the reason for the shooting to occur.
