According to the Gun Violence Archive, an organization that catalogs all incidents of gun violence in the United States, a mass shooting is defined as an incident in which four or more victims are shot or killed.

Although mass shootings do not constitute the majority of incidents of gun violence in the United States, their impact on communities and victims is evident.

Incidents like the mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, continue to bring cities to mourning and have prompted repeated calls for gun reform.

The Gun Violence Archive tracked more than 647 mass shootings in 2022 and 690 in 2021. At this time last year, the country had experienced 27 mass shootings.
