In his opening message, lawyer César de Castro argued that the prosecutors for the Eastern District of New York have not shown evidence against his client: there are no videos, there are no emails, there are no documents, there are no audios, where is the money? ?, he questioned.
De Castro highlighted the work that García Luna did against organized crime in Mexico and showed the photographs with senior US officials with whom he coordinated his work during the government of Felipe Calderón.
Photos of former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holmer and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, among others, were seen in court.
Despite his assertions about the lack of evidence, De Castro did not mention that there is still evidence that prosecutors have not shown to be highly confidential and that they will provide him 24 to 36 hours in advance, according to judge Brian Cogan’s rules.
