3 strategies to save battery and mobile data on your phone

Julian Castillo

Optimizing the use of battery and mobile data is essential for many users who prioritize having greater autonomy on their phones and at the same time do not have unlimited data plans.

Saving battery and mobile data can be quite a challenge, especially for those users who have a large number of applications installed on their computers since in many cases these can drain the phone without even actively using them.

This is because many of them they run in the background and therefore consume resources and data to stay connected to the Internet. An example of this is WhatsApp which, even when closed, performs checks from time to time to verify if a message has been received or not.

However, there are certain strategies that can help you make better use of your phone’s battery and data, and here we will tell you what they are:

1. Activate data saving

All phones come with a built-in data saver feature which, once activated, restricts apps from accessing the Internet.. This means that only those applications that are running in the foreground can connect.

In practice this leads to no app can consume data without the user knowing it, in such a way that if the user has a mobile data quota it will be easier for them to have more control over how they want to consume it. Activating this function also generates fewer processes to run in the background, which also allows energy consumption to be much lower and therefore the user can make more efficient use of each charge.

2. Disable background data

Another alternative is to review, from the phone’s settings menu, what is the data and battery consumption made by a particular application. If the user verifies that the app is making excessive use of data, they can choose to either disable the application data, or restrict the download in the background.

The difference with respect to the previous option is that in this case the restriction of data consumption will occur in a timely manner and therefore the rest of the applications will be able to continue connecting to the Internet normally.

With this, the application will only be authorized to connect to the Internet when it is being used. This will ultimately translate into lower data and battery consumption.

3. Decrease the refresh rate of your screen

If you have a phone with a high screen refresh rate, it is important that you deactivate it at times when you do not require this function to remain active. A high refresh rate usually generates a peak in the consumption of energy that the screen requires to function.

That is why many manufacturers usually incorporate an adaptive refresh rate which automatically adjusts to the type of content that the user is viewing at that time. That way you can optimize the use of the battery without diminishing the user experience.
