This Friday the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, withdrew the lawsuit he filed in Florida against the New York Attorney General, Letitia James, in which he argued that the defendant had abused her position while conducting an allegedly politically motivated investigation into the company’s business dealings trump organization ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, this was intended to prevent the prosecutor’s office from accessing materials from her private trust.
Trump’s lawsuit against James He accused her of “intimidation and harassment” and of making repeated “attempts to steal, destroy, or control all of Trump’s stuff.”
Through a one-page notice filed with Judge Donald Middlebrooks, Donald Trump’s lawyer, Timothy Weber, announced that he was voluntarily dismissing the lawsuit.
“Plaintiff, President Donald Trump, by and through his undersigned counsel and pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 41(a)(1)(A)(i), I hereby voluntarily dismisses its claims in this action against the defendant, Letitia James, without prejudice,” the letter said.
James has accused Trump and his family members of “grossly” inflate the net worth of the former president into billions of dollars and to mislead lenders and others with false and misleading financial statements.
Following the lawsuit, a spokesperson for the New York Attorney General’s Office responded that “several judges have dismissed Donald Trump’s baseless attempts to evade justice, and no amount of lawsuits will deter us from going after this fraud. We are suing Donald Trump because he committed extensive financial fraud. That fact hasn’t changed, and neither will our determination to ensure that no matter how powerful or political you are, no one is above the law“.
The withdrawal came a day after Middlebrooks fined Trump and his lawyers $937,980 for a lawsuit the former president filed against Hilary Clinton, former senior Justice Department officials and several others who allege they conspired against him in the 2016 campaign.
“This case should never have been filed. Its inadequacy as a legal claim was apparent from the start.. No reasonable lawyer would have brought it up. Intended for a political purpose, none of the charges in the Amended Complaint established a cognizable legal claim,” Middlebrooks wrote.
