Novak Djokovic defeated Frenchman Enzo Couacaud on Thursday by a score of 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 and 6-0. Despite his victory in four setsthe Serb suffered from his problems in his left leg and stated that his situation is not ideal as the tournament progresses.
“My situation is not ideal but I don’t want to go further. I would like to feel different but I have to go day by day. The good thing is that there is a rest day between games and it is time to try to recover. I have to be without training on rest days,” said Djokovic.
The Serb will face the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the next round and will be without training due to the pain in his leg, waiting to recover to be in optimal condition.
“I’m worried, I can’t say no because I have reasons to be. I have to accept the circumstances. I’m going to go ahead and try to compete against Dimitrov. Now every day that passes is going to be more complicated. Two years ago there were similar circumstances and I ended up winning the game, ”he commented regarding his 2021 crown.
Djokovic spoke about what happened to a fan who started insulting him in his last game and he was expelled from the stands after complaining to the referee and asking him to be removed from the field.
“I have a problem when someone crosses the line. It’s been several times, there was a group clearly under the influence of alcohol, but it was particularly one that was insulting and provoking me. I have tolerated it for almost two hours, ”he argued about his demands to the linesman to expel the individual in question.
The Serb also explained that the following games will be physical due to the weather conditions and that the games are longer at night due to low temperatures, so he hopes to be in the best possible condition despite his injury.
“I don’t know how we can change this. The calendar in recent days has been affected by weather with extreme heat and rain, and the games lasted until very late at night. The weather is colder, so the game is slower and we will see more physical battles, ”he commented.
