Massacres in Mexico: Baja California tops the list of states with the most cases

Violence is not just a word that resonates every day in Mexico, it is also an action that is echoed from north to south in that country, taking place in different ways, one of which is the massacres, which have become a constant in several states, with Baja California leading the list with this crime.

According to the weekly Zeta, during 2022, 170 massacres were registered in the country with the death of at least three people in each of the eventsthus adding 847 fatalities.

Of the total massacres committed in Mexico, 38 were committed in Baja Californiabeing at the head of the states where multiple homicides were committed, well above Jalisco, Guanajuato, Zacatecas and Michoacán, where there were also a large number of murders.

Despite the fact that the massacres made headlines, in the year that just ended they showed a downward trend, since in 2021 more than 326 events were registeredwith a balance of 1,407 deaths.

Firearms, a problem denounced even in US courts by the Government of Mexico, were the method most used to commit the massacres, since of the 170 carried out in 2022, 145 were carried out with pistols or other high-caliber weapons.

Likewise, the places where these multiple homicides occurred were mainly in streets and avenues, with 47 events; 39 in residential houses; 24 on roads, gaps or neighboring roads; 20 on land, vacant, or depopulated; 13 in bars, restaurants or party rooms; six in public squares, markets, parks or shopping centers; six times in various businesses; four on betting or gaming sites; three in prisons; three in workshops, and five in other points such as military installation, rehabilitation center, parish and school.

Blockades, burning of vehicles, shootings and other things are what the inhabitants often face, causing that when the situation worsens, activities are paralyzed, including public transport, which affects millions of people.

Regarding the wave of violence, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection acknowledged that, during the last days of December and the beginning of January, there was a rise in intentional homicides in the entity.
