Jay Withey, a mechanic from the town of Cheektowaga, became a true hero during the deadly snowstorm that engulfed Erie County, New York, last December, where he saved more than 20 people. As a reward for her actions, she received tickets to the next Super Bowl.
According to authorities, the man helped dozens of people trapped in their cars during the storm, broke into a school and turned it into a makeshift shelter from the harsh conditions that would eventually leave nearly 40 people dead.
In return for your heroic efforts, received two tickets to next month’s Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, in a collaboration between the Buffalo Bills and the regional branch of the insurance company Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Legendary former Bills running back Thurman Thomas personally delivered the surprise and delivered a message, “We know what you did on Christmas Eve was very heroic and you are our hero.”
The storm buried Buffalo in nearly 52 inches of snow in late December, leaving many people stranded on snow-packed roads. while emergency personnel could not get through extremely dangerous blackout conditions.
Withey had been out during the storm to rescue a friend, but was quickly trapped. Over the course of the night, he was turned away by several homes that he begged to take him in, eventually huddling in cars with two other people who begged for his help. But just when his gas supply was getting dangerously low, Withey discovered that there was a school nearby.
After breaking the school’s window and opening the front doors, Withey walked back into the snow to find others who were trapped, leading them back into the building.or in search of food and warmth.
