Marcelo Bielsa would be the one chosen to direct the Mexican National Team, would El Loco agree to train El Tri?

After half of January and almost two months after the failure in the World Cup in Qatar 2022, the doubt remains about who will take the position of coach in the Mexico National Team.

Around El Tri there is much speculation and a gigantic dance of names. Experienced coaches such as Guillermo Almada, Ricardo ‘Tuca’ Ferretti, Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Ambriz and Miguel ‘Piojo’ Herrera, to some who have been off the bench for some time such as Hugo Sánchez, have been mentioned for the position.

On this occasion, the respected and controversial sports journalist david faitelsonwho a few weeks ago announced the names of the coaching candidates that are managed in the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), assured that The directors want the position to be occupied by Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine coach, a true globetrotter on the benches around the world, both at club and national team level, finds himself without a team and his last experience was with Leeds in England until he was dismissed on February 27, 2022.

“The main candidate to direct the Mexican National Team is the Argentine Marcelo Bielsa. The question is: does Bielsa want to return to Mexico? ”, Faitelson said through his Twitter account.

The 67-year-old coach has an extensive resume and in it there is important experience and it is in Liga MX, at that time the Mexican Professional League, in command of Atlas de Guadalajara. His work laid the foundations in the Guadalajara institution, to mention some of his work promoting the academies and basic forces of the institution.

Thanks to that Atlas work, players came out who were later Mexican figures, such as Pável Pardo, Oswaldo Sánchez, Jared Borgetti and Rafa Márquez. Despite the fact that he did not win any title, he is fondly remembered among the board of directors, fans and former players. He also had a fleeting stint with the Águilas del América, from the end of 1995 to March 1996.

It is known that Bielsa rejected in the 90’s and also in 2014 to take the reins of the Mexican National Team. True to his style, the Fool signs contracts driven, not by money, but by the project, and if a plan is not to his liking, he does not say yes to the proposal.

At the beginning of 2022, the name of Marcelo Bielsa was also heard as a possibility to lead Mexico, but it was only a rumor while one of his disciples, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, was on the Aztec bench.
