On January 15, 15 years have passed since the Steve Jobs announced the launch of the macbook air at Macwworld Expo 2008 in San Francisco.
At the time, the MacBook Air was the world’s slimmest laptop, and while that title is currently held by LG, this Apple device is an impressive role model.
“We’ve built the world’s thinnest laptop, without sacrificing a full-size keyboard or a full-size 13-inch screen,” Jobs said in a press release, “When you first see the MacBook Air, it’s hard to believe. which is a high-performance laptop with a full-size keyboard and screen. But it is”.
The original 13-inch MacBook had a drop-down tray on the right side of the machine that had only one access to a USB port, a headphone jack, and a Micro-DVI port for connecting an external display.
In turn, it was Apple’s first laptop with a multi-touch trackpad, no CD/DVD drive, and an SSD upgrade option.
In United States, the MacBook Air cost $1,799 with a 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM and an 80 GB hard drive. Also:
- Intel X3100 Graphics Media Accelerator;
- Micro-DVI port (includes Micro-DVI to VGA and Micro-DVI to DVI adapters);
- built-in iSight video camera;
- built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR;
Along with this laptop was also announced the release of Time Capsule, updates for the iPhone and iPod Touch, among others.
In general, this first version received mixed reviews, with some praising the design and others against it for performance and battery life.
