Francisco Egas, president of the Ecuadorian Federation, affirmed that Gustavo Alfaro will not continue as coach of the Ecuadorian soccer team and that it will not take long to announce his replacement for the 2026 World Cup process.

“We are not going to take a lot of time to choose a new coach, we will analyze the folders that have come to us, which are many. It won’t be a long time, it will be days, we are going to look for a coach to help us get further. Already qualifying for a World Cup is an obligation”, said Egas.

Egas congratulated Alfaro’s work after Ecuador was in the group stage after losing 2-1 in a decisive match against Senegal that kept them away from the round of 16. “He did a great job with our team, he believed in us and in the young players, for me the process was successful. I want to keep his human quality ”, he added.

Regarding his separation from the Ecuadorian team, the president of the Ecuadorian institution denied that it was due to a request for a salary increase to continue as technical director in the team and affirmed that it was something that falsely appeared in the press.

“It bothers everything that is beginning to be woven by a part of the press. It is true, there is an economic issue to cover with it, but we are waiting for the money from FIFA (because of Ecuador’s participation in the World Cup) to cancel some pending awards and we have told them, that is nothing special”.

During the interview, Egas pointed out that he would have offered a payment alternative with a prudent time to make it effective, but he stressed that the former coach did not accept because he asked that the amount owed be canceled before negotiating a possible new contract.

“When one of the parties does not want to, it can no longer be forced”, Egas remarked.
