The prosecutor who is examining the classified documents of President Joe Biden from his time as vice president, John Lausch, has already presented his preliminary report on the matter to Attorney General Merrick Garlandaccording to a new report.
CNN reported that Lausch also briefed Garland on the situation. on several occasions and that no additional information sessions are proposed.
“A small number of documents with confidentiality seals” was discovered as Biden’s personal lawyers cleared out offices at the Penn Biden Center, where the president had an office after leaving the vice presidency in 2017 until shortly before launching his 2020 presidential campaign in 2019, the special counsel for the Chairman, Richard Sauber.
The 10 classified documents were discovered on November 2, 2022 in a “closed cabinet” inside the office, he added.
With the Chicago prosecutor’s report, the attorney general is expected to decide whether or not to open a criminal investigation, appoint a special counsel or close the matter.
According to the aforementioned media the documents purportedly date from between 2013 and 2016 and include US intelligence memos and briefing materials on Ukraine, Iran and the UK, plus Biden family items, such as Beau Biden’s funeral arrangements and condolence letters.
Among other documents found were material that is governed by the Presidential Records Act of 1978 which requires that White House records be turned over to the National Archives at the end of each presidency.
It is unknown at this time who oversaw the storage of the documents at the Penn Biden Center and whether Merrick Garland had prior knowledge of these documents.
