The Mexican National Team had a great disappointment in the World Cup in Qatar 2022. The team led by Gerardo Martino could not get past the first round and said goodbye to the World Cup early. The “Tata” took a step to the side and El Tri was left without a leader on the bench. Many have been the coaches nominated for the position, but none with a project already elaborated like Miguel Herrera.

Several names have circulated in the media that could take the reins of El Tri. Foreigners and Mexicans have been nominated left and right. The most curious thing about the case is that, without being contacted, Miguel Herrera already has a defined plan for the Mexican National Team in case they give him the opportunity in the Aztec team.

“Nothing would give me more pleasure than to say yes, but no, unfortunately there is still no contact; We are ready, we are ready Today we do have a project in hand in case they ask us, deliver it… I have a project that would work the way I see it”, declared the Mexican for Fox Sports.

Miguel Herrera, an old acquaintance from El Tri

The former UANL Tigres coach is one of the strongest Mexican names to take over as El Tri’s coach. In November 2013, “Piojo” was announced as a strategist for the Mexican National Team to complete the path to Russia World Cup 2018.

Miguel Herrera led the Mexican National Team in 36 matches. During that number of matches, “Piojo” took the victory in 18 opportunities, tied in 11 and lost 7 games. The Mexican strategist conquered a Gold Cup and left the 2018 World Cup in Russia in the round of 16.
