Javier Pastore is one of the players who for a time shone at the top of football in the 2010s, but from there the Argentine midfielder lowered his level and even ended up closing his stage at Elche because he could not demonstrate his good game more.
Pastore also revealed that during his time at Paris Saint Germain injuries did not allow him to play well. and although he wanted to play together with Neymar and Mbappé, he knew that staying was not the right thing for him.
“It was super difficult, yes, because I didn’t want to leave. My heart told me: ‘we are going to stay for five years and I am going to finish my degree here. It was the dream for a footballer, to play twelve or fifteen years there and be able to play with Messi and Mbappé, train with them and be able to tell my children about it later. That would have been the greatest gift, but it didn’t seem fair to me. He had no level for Paris Saint-Germain”.
Pastore played 7 seasons for PSG where he played 269 games with 45 goals and 61 assists. The Argentine midfielder was in the resurgence of PSG in Ligue 1 and the club with which he won 5 League Titles, 5 League Cups, 4 French Cups and 5 French Super Cups.
The midfielder was near and dear to Nasser Al Khelaifi who brought him to the French team as a 22-year-old in 2011. The constant injuries did not allow him to give the 33-year-old Argentine a better continuity and so he went to Roma and then to Elche where he recently announced that he would retire.
“For me it was the right time, I didn’t want to be stubborn, but it was also complicated because the president (Al-Khelaïfi) didn’t want to let me go”, he continues explaining about his farewell. “I remember very well. She told me: ‘but no, you’ll see, everything is going to change, we are going to see a doctor for your injuries’. “PSG gave me a lot at all levels, personal, sporting and financial,” he admits.
