boring draw eagles of america in his debut in the Clausura 2023 Tournament against the Gallos Blancos del Querétaro. The capitalists were erratic in the collective operation against some albiazules that showed little to seek to stay with the clash, which would have meant a surprise in the forecasts.

But the tie was not the only thing to highlight in the match played on Saturday, January 7 at the Azteca Stadium, there are several points to highlight. The most notable is that the captain’s armband finally fell to veteran right-back Miguel Layúnwho has gone from being on the exit ramp in Coapa to starting as a starter and with important responsibility with the Eagles.

But Layún’s game was not entirely positive and a mistake triggered the networks to mock their current level and if he has the chevrons on the field of play to take over the bracelet left by Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa.

Nearly 40 minutes into the first half, Layún received a ball from the defense on the wing intended to create danger down the right lane, but he lost coordination and comically slipped on his axisgiving away possession to the rival.

“I told you Layun should not continue in America and even less being a captain is a shame,” one of the fans commented on that play; “He is not old enough to be running, that’s why he falls,” remarked another.

The truth is that since the Eagles announced their lineup with the 34-year-old defense taking the captaincy, comments arose that he did not deserve or have earned the “honor” with Club America.

The starter in the position, Emilio Lara, was seriously injured in the club’s preseason, so in the absence of any reinforcement in that position, coach Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz has no choice but to start Miguel Layún.

But Tano Ortiz also made another important decision and that is that he gave Óscar Jiménez the title of goalkeeping over the ambitious and newcomer Luis Malagón, who in addition to being young (25 years old), has a lot of talent and a thirst for success in Coapa.
