The Transportation Security Administration says a traveler tried to smuggle a boa constrictor snake as an ’emotional support pet’ through security.
A spokesperson for the agency tweeted that the incident occurred at Tampa International Airport in December when a woman had the snake, named “Bartholomew”, in her carry-on bag. The snake was detected when the bag went through an X-ray machine.
The spokesperson said TSA contacted the airline, which said it could not bring the snake on board the plane.
According to the agency, the snake is four feet long.
“There’s a hazard noodle in that bag… Our officers at Tampa International Airport found this hysterical! Wrapped up in a passenger’s carry-on luggage was a 4-foot boa constrictor! We really don’t have any chance of discovering a pet going through an X-ray machine,” the TSA joked in an Instagram post.
