No one matched all six numbers in Friday’s Mega Millions draw and won the estimated $940 million jackpot, bringing the lottery prize to an estimated $1.1 billion before the next drawing on Tuesday in the evening.
The award it is now the third largest in United States history.
The numbers drawn on Friday night were: 3, 20, 46, 59, 63 and gold Mega Ball 13.
Ha There have been 24 draws without a jackpot winner, dating back more than two months. The winless streak is due in large part to the remote odds of winning the game of 1 in 302.6 million.
The new estimated prize of $1.1 billion will go to a winner who chooses an annuity paid annually for 29 years. Grand prize winners typically opt for the cash option, which for Tuesday night’s drawing will have an estimated value of $568.7 million.
“Mega Millions just hit the billion dollar mark again. It’s especially nice to see the jackpot grow over the holidays and into the new year,” Pat McDonald, Ohio Lottery Director and Principal Director of the Mega Millions Consortium, said in a statement early Saturday.
“As the jackpot grows, we encourage our players to stay within their entertainment budget and enjoy this jackpot along with us.”
The only Mega Millions jackpots larger than the estimated $1.1 billion chance to be drawn on Tuesday have been the $1.53 billion won in South Carolina in 2018 and the $1.33 billion winning ticket in Illinois in July, he noted. Mega Millions in the statement.
Elijah Kouza, an assistant manager at Buscemi’s convenience store in Livonia, Michigan, told the New York Post that the Mega Millions jackpot drew a lot of customers ahead of Friday night’s drawing.
The $940 million jackpot was prominently advertised in the store and Kouza was expecting much more Mega Millions ticket sales than the 20 to 25 normally sold on Fridays.
“It’s kind of funny to me, because if it’s like $100 million, people say, ‘No.’ They will pass,” she said.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands.
As the jackpot grows, the odds of winning remain 1 in 302.6 million.
