Didier Deschamps will remain in the French national team until 2026 and Zinedine Zidane's dream will continue to wait

The French team confirmed Didier Deschamps as coach of the national team until 2026 after being runner-up in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The French coach, who won the Cup in Russia in 2018, was discussing his contract extension if it was for 2 or 4 more years.

“It is not to continue to continue (…) but because I am convinced that there is a lot to do” and “I have the energy”, Deschamps stressed at a press conference with the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), Noël Le Graët.

Zinedine Zidane has been one of the names that has remained in the rumors to reach the bench of France after his departure from Real Madrid. But Deschamps has achieved success and the support of the French Federation to continue until the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

“They can count on me and the technical team to keep the French team at the highest international level,” said Deschamps, who is one of three members to win a World Cup as a player and coach.

Deschamps has been in charge of coach for 10 years and since then he has added 89 wins, 28 draws and 22 losses in the 139 games played, with 279 goals for and 119 against. He also reached a Eurocup final that he lost to Portugal, a UEFA Nations League title and the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

With this announcement the participation of Karim Benzema of the France team who always had differences with Deschamps and he was even removed from the concentration in Qatar due to an alleged injury that ended in controversy.

His team occupies the third position in the FIFA ranking and has been in the top four for the last five years.

The FFF specified that, in addition to expanding the relationship with Deschamps, it will also extend the contracts of his deputy, Guy Stéphanthe goalkeeper coach, Franck Raviot, as well as the physical trainer, Cyril Moine.
