HOUSTON – Bond was set at $4.5 million for Pablo Patiño, who was arrested this Thursday during a confrontation with a SWAT team in the Spring area after the man burned down the residence where he lived with his wife.
Patiño, 28, did not appear in court this Saturday, but six charges were filed against him anyway.
The judge decided to enter $1 million on each of the counts, including two for arson. The reason for two charges of arson is because Patiño days before Thursday’s confrontation had already tried to burn down his in-laws’ house where his wife and stepdaughter were staying.
Before starting the first fire, which was caught on video by a surveillance camera, Patiño had been arrested after a domestic violence incident in which he beat and threatened his wife.
Patiño was released on bail for the incident of domestic violence on January 3 and two days later he showed up at his in-laws’ house to burn down the residence. As the wife and other relatives left, Patiño tried to run over the woman before escaping from her.
This Thursday when the wife went to try to remove some belongings from her house with the custody of a police officer, they met Patiño, who barricaded himself in one of the rooms and threatened to shoot them.
The police officer and the woman left the residence and soon after smoke began to be seen coming from the residence, within minutes the two-story residence was engulfed in flames.
Patiño tried to escape, but was caught up by the police and arrested.
According to court documents, Patiño was working as a software engineer before the events that unfolded this week.
Patiño has a second court hearing scheduled this coming Monday.
