The United States avoided commenting on the capture in Mexico of Ovidio Guzmán, son of Chapo

The United States this Thursday avoided commenting on the capture of the drug trafficker in Mexico Ovid Guzmanone of the sons of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman most wanted by US authorities.

In a press conference, the State Department spokesman, Ned Price, limited himself to asking Americans to take precautions if they are in Sinaloathe northwestern Mexican state where El Chapo’s son was captured.

“I can’t comment on the subject. I have seen the reports, but I leave it to the Mexican authorities to provide the details,” the spokesman replied when questioned about the arrest.

Price assured that the US government has been closely following “the violence” that occurred in Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa, where there has been “reports of shootings and roadblocks”.

He stressed that the United States Embassy in Mexico launched an alert this Thursday for Americans warning that the Government of Sinaloa asked the population to remain under refuge.

“We urge you to follow the local news to follow the instructions given by local authorities,” he said.

After his capture in the state of Sinaloa, the Mexican Armed Forces transferred Chapo’s son to the Mexican capital and made him available to the federal Public Ministry agent to determine his legal status.

The arrest occurred early Thursday morning in an operation involving members of the National Army, the National Guard and other security institutions and was the result of six months of work, according to the Mexican government.

Chapo’s son was already captured in 2019, but the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, was forced to release him hours later for the violence with which the Sinaloa Cartel respondedwhich besieged the city of Culiacán.
