NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Thursday that the Bengals-Bills game, the last game of week 17 of the season, which was suspended due to Bills player Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest, will not resume.
“When considering the calendar, our principles have focused on limiting interruptions in the league and minimizing competitive inequalities so as not to resume it. This has been a very difficult week. We remain focused on Damar Hamlin’s recovery,” Goodell said.
“I recognize that there is no perfect solution, but it is an action necessary due to the extraordinary circumstances.”
With the cancellation of the game that the Bengals won 7-3 with just under six minutes remaining in the first quarter, it will affect the fight for the top of the American Conference (AFC).which the Kansas City Chiefs occupy, and which the Bills and Bengals also aspired to.
The Chiefs are first in the AFC with 13 wins and three losses, followed by the Bills with a 12-3 mark and the Bengals with 11-4, the latter two with that game less.
This Friday the NFL teams will have a meeting to determine if due to these circumstances the AFC title gamewhich is played at the home of the team that finished as number one, takes place on neutral ground, among other aspects that will determine the positions of those three teams.
