Since the afternoon of Thursday, January 5, the Mexican drug trafficker Ovidio Guzmán has been incarcerated in the Altiplano prison, considered a high-security prison and located in the State of Mexico.

The prison, also known as Almoloya, It has very high levels of security, which is the main reason why the drug lord was transferred there.

It has a capacity to receive up to 724 inmates, was built on an area of ​​about 64 acres, and is considered the most secure prison in Mexico.

Despite its strong security, the fact that air traffic and communications in the surroundings are restricted, the prison, which was built between 1988 and 1990 by former president Carlos Salinas de Gortarigave signs of her vulnerability on July 11, 2015, the day Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán managed to escape from her through an adapted tunnel with ventilation and lighting.

According to the records of the authorities, the father of Ovidio Guzmán has been the only inmate who has managed to escape from the place in more than 30 years.

In addition to him, several drug traffickers have passed by, such as ‘El Z-40’, ‘La Tuta’, ‘El Z-42’, ‘El Mochaorejas’, Eduardo and Francisco Arellano Félix, ‘El Teo’, Osiel Cárdenas, ‘El Padrino’, ‘El Marro’, among many others.

It has also been a detention center for Mario Aburto, accused of the murder of Luis Donaldo Coloso; Mario Villanueva, who was governor of Quintana Roo; of Jose Luis Abarca, involved with the disappearance of the Ayotzinapa youth; as well as of Raul Salinasbrother of former President Carlos Salinas de Gortari.
