One day after the end of the year, the name of Isauro Ambrosio Tocohua was sadly added to that of six other mayors murdered by organized crime in Mexico.

The municipal president in Rafael Delgado, Veracruz, was shot to death by alleged hitmen that they intercepted the vehicle in which he was traveling on 7B street, near the Quinto Barrio municipal pantheon.

Minutes after the armed attack was carried out, local police officers, as well as experts from the State Attorney General’s Office and paramedics from the Red Cross, arrived with the aim of trying to support the dejected mayor. However, all the effort was useless, because the at least six high caliber impacts he received ended his life suddenly.

In view of the tragic incident, the Veracruz Secretary of Public Security announced that the state security forces, in coordination with the Secretary of National Defense, activated the Red Code Operation.

In this way, police officers, both municipal and state and federal, combed the area to try to locate a hitman, but the operation was unsuccessful.

It should be noted that Isauro Ambrosio Tocohua had been running for a year as municipal president and had earned his position representing the local political party called Fuerza Por México.

“For this 2023, better things are coming for our municipality, mainly promoting education and sports for our children and adolescents. Today, true change is a reality in Rafael Delgado”, were the last words publicly pronounced by the mayor during a visit to a school days before he was executed.

It transpired that a group linked to drug trafficking in the region could be behind the death of the Veracruz politician who was very sympathetic to the population due to the public works he was carrying out.

“The people of Rafael Delgado are in mourning. We condemn the events that occurred and we are collaborating with the authorities of the Prosecutor’s Office to clarify the crime of our friend,” says a message from the local council posted on Facebook.
