Police confirmed that a man armed with a knife provoked a confrontation with authorities at a South Miami apartment building.
The events occurred on Friday afternoon, when South Miami police received several emergency calls about the manwho fled from authorities and barricaded himself inside an apartment building, located at 5950 SW 74th St., just off Dixie Highway.
Police said they were taking precautions as they suspected the man might be holding a gun and were unsure if anyone else was in the apartment.
Officers from the Special Response Team of the Miami-Dade Police Departmentas well as hostage negotiators, also went to the scene.
According to various local media reports, the police finally entered the apartment with a robot and found the suspect hiding in a closet. There was no one else in the apartment.
The man is being charged with aggravated assault.
