Gerardo Martino left a great disappointment for his time with Mexico. Tata’s objective was to take El Tri to the long-awaited fifth match in the Qatar World Cup 2022. But the result was one of the worst World Cups for the Aztec nation in recent years. The Argentine strategist is out of work, but a South American team would offer him a position.

The memory of Gerardo Martino in the Mexican National Team is not pleasant. Tata’s last year in command of El Tri was a true nightmare. The story of the coach and Mexico did not end in a great way. The results and the atmosphere were not the best and that It motivated him to step aside.

The new team that Gerardo Martino would lead

According to information compiled by Heraldo Deportes Tata would already have defined his next step. With less than a month out of El Tri, Gerardo Martino would already have everything arranged for return to direct the Selection of Paraguay. The South American team has not gone to a World Cup since South Africa 2010, tournament in which the Argentine strategist himself directed them.

A new cycle in Paraguay

Gerardo Martino’s time in command of the Paraguayan team was very successful. The Argentinian was in charge of this selection during 66 matches (curiously the same number of duels he led with El Tri). In those meetings, Tata obtained 26 victories, 19 draws and 21 defeats. During his time with the Paraguayan team, Martino managed to reach a Copa América final and a World Cup quarterfinal.
