Such was the case with Leticia Rodríguez Lara, better known as “Doña Lety” or “The Queen of the Riviera Maya”because he exercised great power in the southern region of Mexico.

Rodríguez Lara began his criminal career at the hands of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmanand was considered the main drug trafficker in the tourist area of ​​Quintana Roo, that is, the tropical paradise with a large presence of foreign tourists.

In addition to controlling the sale of drugs, “Doña Lety”, who in the past served as an element of the extinct Federal Judicial Police, managed a network of human trafficking and money laundering in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

But since he no longer had the support of the Sinaloa Cartel, he faced another problem, and that was to defend the territory that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) wanted to snatch him away.

That is why Leticia declared war on Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”thus starting a bloodbath in Quintana Roo that continues to this day

After more than three years of fighting, The debacle of “The Queen of the Riviera Maya” began with the arrest of her sonRafael SR, alias “El Dóver”.

From that moment on, the powerful drug trafficker began to move constantly between Cancun and Mexico City with the intention of looking for connections that would allow her to get her son out of prison.

However, these trips gave the Mexican authorities the opportunity to learn his whereabouts. On August 9, 2017, a month after the arrest of her son, Leticia Rodríguez Lara was detained in the state of Puebla along with three other people while on her way to Mexico City.

However, five years later, in November 2022, “Doña Lety” was released after being acquitted of several of the charges against her, something that generated discontent among the federal authorities.

Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, Undersecretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico, revealed that judges “benefited” criminal groups, which threatens security and generates impunity.
