Online retail giant Amazon has finally launched its drone delivery service in two cities in the United States, and took advantage of the Christmas season to begin air deliveries.

They were the clients of two cities in California and in Texas who began receiving their orders through Amazon’s Prime Air drone service, in packages that were made for delivery before Christmas.

The two air-delivery pilots began in the cities of Lockford, California, and the college town of College Station, Texas, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed in an Amazon report. FoxBusiness.

“Our goal is to safely introduce our drones into the skies. We are starting in these communities and we will gradually expand deliveries to more customers over time,” the Amazon spokesperson added.

How Amazon’s Prime Air service works

Amazon’s Prime Air service still works with some restrictions that mainly have to do with the weight of the products and the type of merchandise that is sent

According to Amazon, customers in the two cities that already have the service thave the option of choosing Prime Air delivery if they have access to it.

Customers must place the order in the normal way, as they would with any common shipment, but with the delivery service with drones.

Once the order is placed, the customerYou will receive an estimated arrival time that can be viewed on a status tracker, Amazon detailed in a statement.

The assigned drone will fly to the assigned delivery site and upon arrival, will descend in the backyard of the house. up to a safe height to leave the package.

Once the package is safely delivered, the drone will resume its normal flight height and return to the Amazon warehouse from which it left.

Deliveries of the Prime Air service began about six months after the company announced it last summer, for the two cities where it is piloting deliveries.

Amazon isn’t the only retailer testing drone delivery, however, as retail giant Walmart also announced earlier this year that it would expand drone delivery for customers in Phoenix, Dallas, Tampa and Orlando.

These types of deliveries have also been part of pilot programs for large parcel delivery companies such as FedEx and UPS, which have also launched some air delivery options.
