american actor Wilson Cruz, figure in the LGBTQ+ community, is turning 48 years old.
He is known for playing Rickie Vasquez in It’s my life, which was broadcast between 1994-1995.
He is also known for being a strong activist in defense of the rights of homosexuals, also of African-Americans. He is from Puerto Rican descent.
Recently, the actor revealed in an interview that he was kicked out of his home once he revealed to his family that he came out.
In 2020, andThe actor told the story, in which he revealed that at that time Cruz was out of the closet with almost everyone he knew and that his parents were the last to find out.
He recorded the pilot of “My So-Called Life”, without speaking to them and without telling them about the program. A year later, Cruz knew it was time.
“I made a bet with the universe, the next time one of them asks me, I’ll get out,” he said. “My mom asked first, and she was fine, she had a Catholic Latina mom meltdown and then she was fine.”
“My father asked me on Christmas Eve a couple of months later… We had our whole family there, and my father asked me why I hadn’t brought a girl. He had brought my best friend from high school, a boy. He was drunk and decided that it was then when was i going to ask. There, in the bathroom on Christmas Eve, my father asked me and I answered him honestly, and he kicked me out of the house ”.
For the next three months, Cruz alternated between staying with friends but also living in your car.
After a year in which he could not talk to his father, after the episode of the program, a change began in your relationship.
Said episode “was about my character’s own situation in which he was kicked out of his house because he was gay”Cruz explained. “Unbeknownst to me, my dad watched that episode when it aired, and as the credits roll, he calls me and says, ‘I think it’s time we talked.'”
“That was the beginning of a relationship. real with my fatherand it was all because of a show that a lot of people still come to me and say, ‘That show changed my life.’”
