For the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, several sports networks hired comedians or content creators to cover the ecumenical event. The renowned standupero Franco Escamilla revealed the reasons why he did not go to the World Cup despite having received great financial offers.
It was in an interview with the famous Adela Micha, for La Saga, where Escamilla confessed that he had several offers to attend Qatar 2022. However, he did not want to specify the name of any television channel or company. The comedian stated that he decided to turn them down because his professional schedule was quite tight due to his comedy tour.
“I had four offers, but I don’t say who. It was hard work because they almost came to you with the suitcase (of money) and like that ‘oh satan’. Money is cabr **. Then I saw how my tour was. It was to travel from Guadalajara to Mexico City, then Qatar. Then to Mexico, Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico, Miami, New York and Qatar again, ”she recounted.
Another reason why the offer was declined was the family factor added to the context of Christmas celebrations. “I told them ‘no, I can’t.’ There were those who told me ‘I’ll fly your family’ and I was tempted, but I wasn’t going to see them in Guadalajara or Qatar, ”he explained.
Escamilla added to his story that the final decision not to attend Qatar 2022 came after a talk with his wife Gabriela Salazar.
“I told Gaby and we agreed that there was no amount. I told him ‘they’re offering me this’ and you say ‘it’s a ching* of money’ and it suits me because it’s the World Cup. I have never experienced a World Cup. I look forward to the next one, the one from Mexico, the United States and Canada. He told me ‘and if you’re not so famous then you don’t suit me’ and I told him he was right,” he said.
Franco Escamilla is one of the Mexican comedians with the most presence on social networks, where he has managed to grow due to his content creation and his facet as a Youtuber.
