Thousands of travelers in the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were affected this Saturday by delays and cancellations of flights prior to Christmas due to the winter storm that hit the Midwest and the East Coast of the United States.
Some of the people had the opportunity to get home in time to share Christmas dinner with their families, but other travelers found it necessary to cancel or reconsider their vacation plans.
“It’s quite stressful because we all wanted to be home for Christmas, but that won’t happen this year,” traveler Vayis Mano told KTLA.
Mano and her friends were at LAX trying to rebook canceled flights to Toronto, but they had a hard time because the planes were completely full, plus they couldn’t find any other options available on a December 24.
Many of the airlines that have been seen to delay or cancel their flights from LAX offered hotel reservations for their affected travelersa compensation that was not enough for some people because it directly affected their plans.
“I’m here with a couple of kids, my nieces, and there were other kids on the flight. It’s heartbreaking. It’s Christmas,” said Michelle Russo, who was hoping to join her family in Maui.
“We got to the gate with a few minutes to spare. They filled all our seats with people waiting. So me, along with 20 other people who were supposed to go to Maui, won’t be able to travel until Monday,” Russo added.
At the Los Angeles International Airport, this Saturday 125 canceled flights were registeredwhile on Friday 400 cancellations were recorded.
According to data from FlightsAware.com, airlines across the United States have had to cancel more than 10,000 flights since Wednesday due to weather.
