South Los Angeles activist woman struck and killed on Christmas Eve by hit-and-run driver

A female activist from South Los Angeles died this Saturday afternoon, on Christmas Eve, hit by a hit-and-run driver.

the victim was Trina Newman, 61-year-old woman described by family and friends as a retired minister, mother and grandmotherwho was active in the community and helped raise six foster children.

According to Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)the hit and run incident occurred at 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of 88th Street and South Broadway.

According to witnesses, Newman was dropping off gifts for local children at a community center on South Broadway when she was struck by the driver. when he was about to get into his car.

The authorities reported that the responsible driver escaped from the place where the hit-and-run occurred.

Trina Newman died at the scene moments after being hit by the vehicle.

“I still do not believe it. I want to receive another phone call from her. It hurts a lot, the day before Christmas. Christmas will never be the same.” Trina Newman’s daughter, Amarrie Nicasio, told ABC.

Authorities did not immediately provide a description of the suspected driver, while the vehicle was described only as a gray SUV, possibly a Nissan.

The police are keeping an investigation open into this hit and run mishap.

Authorities requested that anyone with information that could help detectives contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
