Christmas parties are one of the celebrations preferred by many people, including members of organized crime, who usually organize private events in ranches far from the public eye so as not to attract the attention of the authorities.

This occurred in 100 in the state of Morelos, where members of the the Beltrán Leyva cartel enjoyed a posada organized by none other than the drug trafficker Édgar Valdez Villarreal, alias “La Barbie” , and in which Arturo Beltrán Leyva was also present , leader of the criminal group.

Like any organized crime party, alcohol, women and musical groups abounded setting the event. In this case it was the singer Ramón Ayala , also known as “The King of the Accordion”.

Everything was going normally until, shortly after the midnight, a loud crash was heard that ended the atmosphere of merriment. It was an incursion by elements of the Navy that was immediately repelled by the gunmen who guarded the place.

According to the official file consulted by the newspaper El Heraldo de México, just When Ramón Ayala and his Braves del Norte made their presentation, Édgar Valdéz Villarreal ran into the room where Arturo Beltrán was and shouted: “Boss, escape. Let’s go.” “El Grande”, and six of his escorts while the armed forces began the attack.

After the armed confrontation that lasted several minutes, the authorities managed to kill three hit men and arrested 11 criminals , as well as other 38 people who were at the inn, including Ramón Ayala.

The singer was made available to the Attorney General’s Office to investigate alleged links to drug trafficking. The preventive detention would last for 38 days, but on 40 on December, the musician was released for health reasons, according to the prosecutor’s office itself.

The main argument in favor of Ayala was that he had no knowledge of who he was going to sing for . That thesis had a strong point: the groups offer private shows to anyone who can access them. Therefore, they do not know what those who hire them do.

However, Valdez Villarreal himself contradicted that version when he was arrested a year later, acknowledging that the detainees of 11 de Diciembre were his friends, although he stressed that they were not engaged in any illegal activity related to drug trafficking.

“Ramón Ayala and all the northerners are friends, but they are not traffickers or anything” , said “La Barbie” in the interrogation carried out by the Secretary of Public Safety when he was captured.
