Representative Adam Kinzinger, who sits on the Select Committee of the House investigating the insurrection of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, explained that Donald Trump is guilty of a crime and hinted that he should be indicted and face criminal charges.

During an interview the Republican Kinzinger had with CNN he was asked about whether all the efforts of the Committee for more than a year in the investigation they will be of no use if former President Donald Trump is not charged with any crime.

But, Kinzinger argued that the Committee has served a historic and important purpose in documenting the actions of the former president, as well as his former advisers and allies around him, culminating in a deadly riot at the United States Capitol. 12287565801228756580

The Illinois representative also explained that the Committee’s work will append criminal charges to its final report because failure to act would have detrimental effects on the rule of law.

“I think he is guilty of a crime”, Kinzinger said.

“He knew what he did, we made it clear. He knew what was happening before January 6th . He pressured Justice Department officials to say the elections were stolen and left the rest to me,” the Republican continued.

The Select Committee needed to review all the evidence collected during the time of the investigation, as well as the testimonies, videos and documents that lead them to reach a conclusion and give suggestions for criminal charges to the Department of Justice as they have said on other occasions.

“And then you look at the 1200 minutes where sat in his office [during the riots]. I think it is, if he is not guilty of some kind of crime, it is because the presidents are above the law”, Kinzinger pointed out in the interview.

The Chairman of the Committee, Bennie Thompson, announced that they made the decision to recommend that the Department of Justice (DOJ) impose criminal charges: “We have decided to recommend criminal charges,” he stated.

For his part, representative Adam Schiff He had already revealed in an interview that the data collected by the Panel supports an accusation against former President Donald Trump.

“I think the illustration I gave , that example I gave is just one instance, a particular offense that I think the facts support a possible charge against the former president . Those references could include people who refused to cooperate in the Committee’s investigation or for specific crimes committed on January 6,” Schiff added.
