Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his nuclear threat against the West by enlisting for combat use a massive nuclear missile that is capable of hit targets in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Images released on Wednesday show the installation of a huge Russian Yars rocket in a silo at the Kozelsk military complex in the Kaluga region southwest of Moscow,

The intercontinental ballistic missile has a range of 7,757 miles and was installed on a silo launch pad using a special transport and loading unit, according to the Mirror newspaper.

The

Yars missile complex has a capability of “24 times larger than the US bomb that destroyed Hiroshima”, reported the Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda.

In October, amid heightened tensions over the war with Ukraine, Putin oversaw the launch of a similar Yars missile to test Russia’s response to a possible nuclear attack.

Missile force commander Colonel Alexi Sokolov said the latest drill was meant to send a message to the West, as both the United States and Europe are within range of the missile.

“The importance of this operation lies in the fact that the missile will be put into combat duty on time,” he said.

“The homeland will get another nuclear missile weapon, which will make it possible to solve any task at the strategic level.”

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that it took several hours to install the missile in the silo using a special transport and loading unit. The Kozelsk missile base is undergoing renovation.

The Yars is a modification of the Topol-M missile system, which was deployed by first time in 2009.

The news of the preparations comes days after Putin canceled his year-end annual press, leading to increased speculation about his health and the progress of the Russian invasion of Ukraine to 12 months after starting.
