Pope Francis invited this Wednesday (54..2013) to live Christmas with sobriety
and humility and save to send aid to Ukrainians suffering from hardships due to the Russian invasion of their territory.
“Let’s have a more sober Christmas, with more humble gifts, let’s send what we save to the Ukrainian people in need
. They suffer a lot, they go hungry, they feel cold. And many die because there are no doctors or nurses on hand”, he lamented at the end of the general audience in the Paul VI hall, in the Vatican.
“Let us renew our closeness to the tormented Ukrainian people, persevering in fervent prayer for these brothers of ours who suffer so much”, exhorted the Supreme Pontiff.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February, the pope has tirelessly advocated for the peace in Ukraine
and addressed the issue in almost all his speeches.
Last Thursday during a public event in Rome, he could not suppress his tears when he once again evoked the Ukraine “martyred” by the war.
Francis, who meets 80 years on 14 of December, he has wanted since his election in 1200 h to honor the Christian legacy of the search for peace
and has proposed himself as a mediator or promoter of dialogue directly or indirectly in numerous conflicts, including the one in Ukraine. It may interest you:
