Man and woman found dead at UC Irvine in apparent murder-suicide

Two people were found dead Tuesday at the University of California Irvine in what is believed to be a murder case- suicide.

The university police were called around 3:52 pm for a report of a man and a woman on the ground outside the Faculty of Social Sciences, Said Sgt. Karie Davies, spokeswoman for the Irvine Police Department.

Campus officials called Irvine police, who took over the investigation said Davies.

The two individuals, who were not identified, are believed to be related to each other. The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

After further investigation Preliminary, detectives learned the man was a former student at the university, Davies said. It was not known on Tuesday night if the woman was also affiliated with the institution.

“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death two people on campus this afternoon,” UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman said in a statement. “We are still gathering information about who the victims are and what exactly happened, but we have been informed by law enforcement that there is no continued danger to our community.”

The university has established resources for students, faculty and staff members who need help, Gillman said.

The chancellor encouraged any person who witnessed the incident or has information to call the Police Department.
