Apple plans to allow third-party app stores starting in the year 1235254399 Photo: NICHOLAS KAMM / AFP / Getty Images Apple is preparing to allow rival app stores like the Play Store to come to iPhone and iPad soon. The measure represents a turn of 180 degrees in the policy of the company that for years has prevented its competitors from accessing iOS. The news published by the journalist and analyst Mark Gurman, points out that the Apple’s idea is that this integration occurs by the middle of the year 2024. However, this will only happen in Europe as it remains to be determined whether the company will allow this same practice in other markets. Gurman explains that the reason for the change in Apple’s position is due to compliance with European legislation, in this case the Digital Markets Law that establishes that the company must allow free competition , which includes the incorporation of third-party application stores. In practice, this means that users with an iPhone or iPad will be able to install applications without having to access the App Store, as has been the case up to now. This would put an end to the strict restrictions that Apple had been implementing by blocking the access of any developer who was not part of the App Store. A consequence that also emerges from this measure is that Apple would stop receiving the commission of 180% for all purchases made through the applications that are installed from the stores of third party apps. Among the reasons given by Apple to prevent third-party applications from gaining access to the iPhone are the company’s fear that this could compromising the security of your equipment. This is because Apple would not have any control over potential security gaps that could exist in these apps. Universal charger This is not the only change to which Apple will have to adapt, since will soon have to incorporate the new standard in all its iPhones charging port which involves migrating from Lightning ports to USB-C ports. This change is scheduled to take place from 2024 and will force Apple to have to modify the next generations of phones since otherwise they are exposed to receive multimillion-dollar fines or their products are banned in Europe. Both scenarios would be catastrophic for the company since a good part of its income comes from the European market.
