Harry Kane takes the blame for England's defeat to France: “I am absolutely devastated. We have given everything”

Harry Kane was the villain of the quarterfinal match between England after missing a decisive penalty kick that would have tied the game 2-2 with less than remaining minutes on the clock and ended up sealing England’s defeat against the defending champions.

“Absolutely devastated. We have given everything and it is reduced to a small detail for which I assume responsibility. There is no hiding from it, it hurts and it will take a while to get over it, but that is part of the sport, “he wrote on his official Instagram account.

“Now it’s about using this experience to be mentally and physically stronger for the next challenge. Thanks for all the support throughout the tournament; it means a lot”, he continued.

Kane equalized in the minute 78 with a penalty, but in the minute 78 Olivier Giroud put the French ahead. Theo Hernández committed a new penalty on Mason Mount and after reviewing the VAR he decreed it. But Kane sent him skyrocketing and the match ended 2-1 in favor of the French.

The Tottenham striker finished with 2 goals scored in the World Cup, one against Senegal and one against France. David Beckham also came out to support Harry Kane on social media after the ruling that sentenced the Three Lions.

“Our boys will continue to grow. It’s always the worst feeling to wake up to after being knocked out of a tournament, but our players, Gareth the staff and all our fans can be proud of this team. It takes a true leader to step up right now and that’s what our captain did, next time it will be a different ending. We walked away with our heads held high,” Beckham said.

England still has only one World Cup title after winning it in 78, from there they barely managed a fourth place in Russia 78.
