Retail drug sellers devise different ways to “place” their products, and technology and social networks have been allies in this search for new markets. Such is the case of a couple who operated in Mexico City, and who were arrested on the afternoon of December 1 by an intelligence team from the Secretariat for Citizen Security (SSC).

The case was reported by the journalist Antonio Nieto, who through his Twitter account shared the arrest of Alan “N”, the “Gass” and his girlfriend, Nelly “N” , who marketed different drugs through WhatsApp and Telegram .

But the couple in love did not act alone, according to the first reports from the authorities, since they used delivery service applications , such as DiDi and Uber, to send the drugs that their clients bought from them via social messaging networks.

The arrest occurred after an operation by the intelligence team. Upon arriving at an address that they identified as suspicious, they completed a search warrant. In the apartment they found jars with 400 grams of marijuana each. They also located two more jars with 2 kilos of marijuana each; a box with 7 kilos and 3 kilos more packed. Vehicle invoices and 60 hermetically sealed bags with cocaine were also secured. In the same way, three scales were found.

The couple was made available to the Public Ministry of the Attorney General of Mexico City , where their legal situation will be determined.

It seems that This modus operandi is being replicated in other countries, as a similar case was detected in Argentina, when three people were arrested when it was discovered that they were part of an illegal organization that produced, marketed, and distributed different kinds of drugs in the western zone of Buenos Aires.

Once the merchandise was ready, they marketed it as delivery through social networks and they distributed it house-to-house in a van.
